stage 3

In this stage I cut fragments of newspaper stories and scanned them in the darkroom to portray the duality and flexibility of paper. Materially, paper is harmless, however through prints like news, it can become a dangerous product of propaganda

DEVELOPMEMNT

I developed this idea of change through writing on paper. I asked two individuals to write a paragraph on any topic they feel strongly about in our contemporary society. I placed black transfer paper underneath so I could evaluate how hard they pressed their pen to paper whilst writing, which accurately measured their changing emotions whilst writing certain words and semtences. I came to the conclusion that the harder they pressed while writing, the more passionate and angry they felt.

I selected the sentences which are more contrasted, and cropped them out. The words they wrote down harder all had a common theme; conveying a collective idea that capitalism strains the lives of young people. This ultimately shows how paper can be a powerful tool and is versatile in its purpose, from creating 3D abstract shapes to being used as a tool to convey political messages.
